Michael Reeder Mural for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

Michael Reeder is a Texan-born, Los Angeles-based artist who is a contemporary portraitist. He uses figurative distortions and symbolic dislocations as a vehicle for the expression and examination of identity. Reeder’s controlled chaos is as evocative as it is strategically unsettling, using various mediums, he creates works that express imagery that is loose enough to encourage projection and tight enough to direct association by tapping into the subconscious. He inspires a new sense of surrealism, with portraits of a limitless visual resource.

Lauren YS’s Mural for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

Lauren YS is a Bay Area artist whose work is influenced by multiple stages of focus, both geographically and in practice. With dynamic bouts in academics, literature, and writing, teaching, illustration, and animation leading up to her arrival in the urban art sphere, these phases of her own career informed her robust style of murals and fine art. Influenced by dreams, mythology, death, comics, love, sex, psychedelia, animation, nostalgia, and her Asian-American heritage, Lauren’s work is often geared towards pushing a narrative undertone, addressing the absurdities of reality in the confines of a page or a wall, weaving in an always fantastical aesthetic.

Amy Sol’s Mural Progress for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

We are excited to have Amy Sol as a part of Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape creating a mural on the same space her peers Audrey Kawasaki and Sarah Joncas executed their murals in our past collaboration with the Long Beach Museum of Art.

Amy Sol spent her childhood years in Korea then moved to the United States where she currently lives and works. Though the style of her work is greatly influenced by a combination of manga, folk-art, vintage illustration and modern design, she remains a self-taught artist. The artist works intuitively from the beginning to end of each piece, with the intent that each painting’s theme or message can be interpreted subjectively. Yet, the unique color palette of subtly muted tones in the delicate works tends to always evoke peaceful reflection and a sense of companionship.
