Tory Lovegates Featured in the March Issue of Juxtapoz Magazine

Thinkspace family artist Troy Lovegates is featured in the March issues of Juxtapoz magazine. The issue is available on newsstands now and you can get a taste of the interview over on Juxtapoz.com. We love Troy’s unique way of translating his street art style into a gallery aesthetic with drawings, paintings, and sculptures. All available artwork from Troy Lovegates can be viewed on the Thinkspace Gallery website.

With murals scattered around the globe, what do you enjoy most about painting large scale, and is there any one piece that you took the most pleasure in doing?
A lot of days I start heading to my studio to work and don’t want to go inside. Instead, I end up just wandering all day. I hate being indoors. Studios are lonely boxes. Being an artist is one lonely ass thing to become. Being outside painting is a marriage of painting and fresh air. I love it. The last mural I painted in Toronto was 13 pillars with 13 locals painted on them. I took images of people who passed through the park and painted them. I really enjoyed how the community embraced the wall. People would come by with food and drinks just to talk for hours. That just doesn’t happen at my studio.

Front of Fort Wayne Museum of Art

July 11th – September 27th, 2015

We’ve been in Indiana this week getting Invisible College up at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery, and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Invisible College offers a cross-section of some of the most exciting artists working in the New Contemporary genre. As it continues to evolve and expand, the movement embraces talent from all over the world and ushers in a new guard that seeks to increase the social and popular relevance of contemporary art. Below are process shots of a few of the mural installations coming from Andrew Schoultz, Cyrcle, Mark Dean Veca and Troy Lovegates. The exhibition will also include a featured installation by Brett Amory.

Opening Night of Gumbo, Beautanica, and Contenders

Thinkspace hosted a gallery full of art lovers for the opening night of Gumbo, Beautanica, and Contenders. Gumbo is a group exhibition featuring works by Alex Yanes, James Bullough, Matthew Grabelsky, Ryan Hewett, Sergio Garcia, Troy Coulterman and Troy Lovegates. A diverse group of artists that reflect the diversity of our steadily expanding gallery roster. It’s a fantastic exhibition showing various styles, from sculpture to figurative abstract portraiture. Australian artist Bec Winnel exhibited her new work in our project room, featuring ethereal beauties who mesmerized guests. Forcing collectors to stare on, torn between which pieces to purchase. And sold out before doors opened, Brian Mashburn’s new work for ‘Contender’ is a captivating teaser for his upcoming show in July.
You can view all the photos from the opening night on Flickr or Facebook. The exhibitions are on view from April 25 through May 16 during gallery hours.
