Opening Reception: Friday, August 11th, 2006 from 7pm until 11pm Show Runs: August 11th through September 2nd, 2006 Overview: Thinkspace is pleased to present "Lopsided Soup", featuring new works, collaboration and an installation from Lesley Reppeteaux and Myna Sonou. With "Lopsided Soup" Lesley and Myna express their fondness for one another's work by creating a site-specific installation that merges their beautifully unique worlds together in a way that makes the rest of the exhibit flow like soup from a lopsided bowl. Lesley Reppeteaux Bio: Lesley Reppeteaux is an extraordinarily talented and shrewd artist, who is able to strike a balance between lovely and bizarre. She has created a peculiar place where pouty-lipped creatures with melancholy beauty reside, creating a peculiar world filled with chimera and charm she can call all her own. Born in Nova Scotia, she currently resides in Venice Beach, though rarely sees the ocean due to the fact she is cramped up painting in her studio all day. Shortly after the opening of "Lopsided Soup" Lesley will make the big jump across the pond over to Paris, France where she plans to further her studies and broaden her horizons in the pursuit to push her craft to the limit. Lesley will be in the next issue of Art Prostitute magazine as well as Monsters, the upcoming new book from Fantagraphics. She has also been featured in Lemonade Magazine, as well as numerous websites, including being named "Tart of the Month" for this August by The Tart Gallery. She has shown with the likes of Copro/Nason Gallery, La Luz De Jesus Gallery, Gallery 1988, Nucleus Gallery, Toyroom Gallery, Cannibal Flower and many more and also took part in last year's Keep-A-Breast benefit. Artist website: www.reppeteaux.com Myna Sonou Bio: Myna Sonou's favorite kind of art is exalting beautiful, surreal, absurd and oriental meets occidental. These concepts are what fuels her work and challenge her approach to image making. She strives to create work that is free of personal or emotional issues, as she likes to keep who she is separate from what she does as she doesn't feel the need for them to be constantly synonymous, seeing it as a little cliché when they are. A recent graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Myna is preparing to begin work on her first self-published book of original paintings and short poems. She has shown with the likes of Roq La Rue, La Luz De Jesus Gallery, Uno Art Gallery, The Hive Gallery, Cannibal Flower and many more. From stunningly complex works executed on thin sheets of acetate captured under antique convex glass frames to awe inspiring works of delicate sculpture, Myna is most certainly an artist with a future that is as far reaching as her artwork itself.
