’5 Years / 5 Questions’ with Joao Ruas
Tell us a little bit about your piece for Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show’ this November?
It’s part of my ongoing “Haunted” series which portrays fragments of memories, many times taken out of place and context, in a certain aesthetic way that is being refined (or mutated) with time.
What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
I was living in London, working in entertainment, happy to be there, unhappy to be working there.
Name 5 things you can’t live without in your studio?
Pencils, paper, coffee, music and silence.
Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
I want to be doing the same I do now but hopefully more complete, perhaps finally outside a big city.
What have you got coming up in 2011?
I got a pencil group show curated by Ryan Graff scheduled for the first semester at Gallery Nucleus and a solo in November at Thinskspace.
