’5 Years / 5 Questions’ with Pedro Matos
Tell us a little bit about your piece for Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show’ this November?
My piece for Thinkspace’s 5 Year Anniversary Show is a 20 x 20 inch Oil, Acrylic and Aerosol painting on canvas. It’s a figurative painting portraying an old lady with a hat, glasses and she’s both crying and smiling at the same time.
What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
I hadn’t started painting until 2006, so I guess that when Thinkspace started I was dedicating most of my time and energy into Skateboarding. One year later Skateboarding and people like Ed Templeton made the connection from Skateboarding into art and that’s when I started painting.
Name 5 things you can’t live without in your studio?
I am not sure there are 5 things I couldn’t live without in my studio, but I’d say that Music is a must and it’s a good motivation when friends show up.
Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
I hope to be living a happy and fulfilling life both as a person and artist. The past five years have been an amazing ride so I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me!
What have you got coming up in 2011?
My major plan for 2011 is my second solo show. It will be the first in the US and it’s at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. I am also co-owner/co-director of YellowPants Gallery and we will have some great shows in Lisbon including artists such as WK Interact, Buff Monster, Dave Kinsey, Sickboy, Mr. Jago, Fefe Talavera, etc. After that it will be a solo with Thinkspace in 2012.
