An interview with Ana Bagayan

Can you share a lil’ bit about your new body of work for ‘There Is Time To Kill Today‘?
Although theres no unifying theme to this show, the inspiration for the work comes from the metaphysical- ghosts, spirits, intergalactic space creatures, anything that hints at the idea that we are just a small part of the unimaginably vast universe. Some of the works are based on hypnosis sessions of people who believed they had been abducted by aliens. I’ve created human/alien hybrid creatures based on the experiences these people described. All of the works, I feel incorporate the inherent beauty of interpreting both the known and unknown.

What fuels you to keep creating?
I think the fact that the human hand can create intricate images by smearing some colors together is reason enough to keep doing it.

Please describe your dream project if time and money were not issues.
Two things. One would be to do a really large piece. The other would be some sort of traveling art project where I roam the earth with my art supplies and see what happens.

Favorite item in your studio?
My dead things collection.

Is there anyone in particular, artist or otherwise, that you’d like to give a shout out to here?
Liz Brizzi, my show mate.

Any shows or special projects coming up after your exhibit with us here at Thinkspace you would like to mention?
I will be taking a short break to work on commissions and some non-art related interests I have but I’ll be doing some group shows. Some have yet to be confirmed but I will announce them on my website. I will also working on a playing card game!
