‘Fierce’ from Australian graffiti and street artist Anthony Lister
‘Fierce’ debuted this past December during Art Basel at a pop-up gallery space in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. The exhibition will make a special one-night appearance in Los Angeles at THIS los angeles in Highland Park, and works on view include 11 wood panels, five large canvases and more than two-dozen masks.
Rendered in acrylic and spraypaint, the wood panels feature Lister’s iconic superheroes as well as rare self-portraits: In one painting, a messy-haired Lister stands with his arms crossed in front of a finished graffiti piece, and in another, he uses a roller to paint one of his giant street murals. The masks are painted on uniquely shaped wood cutouts and each feature a ferocious black cat with blood dripping from its fangs.
