The hybrid of the Tiger and Rabbit signifies the annual transition in the Korean calendar. Situated in Hongdae, the center of Seoul’s fashion and nightlife, the neighborhood is the confluence of traditional korean culture and American influence.

I was fifteen. I was a wigger doing my PSAT’s.

Tell us a little bit about your piece for Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show’ this November?
I started this piece in July at the Visionary Expo in New Jersey. I was there painting live. It was still loose but looking good so I brought it home. It sat in my studio for a while, and after a couple months it started begging me to be finished. I took a digital snapshot of it and started messing with it in Photoshop, added some new elements and started playing around with color. Using my Photoshop comp for reference, I finished the painting up for real.

What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
My paintings were finally starting to sell and my career was beginning to take off. I was also still working a 40 hr a week day job in the film industry. So I guess the best answer is that I was working- constantly.

Name 5 things you can’t live without in your studio?
Netflix Instant
My electronic cigarette
My bong
My dogs
The Howard Stern Show

Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
Out of credit card debt.

What have you got coming up in 2011?
I am curating a sculpture show at Copro Gallery in January. In June, I have a solo show at Last Rites in NYC and then a solo show with Dan Quintana at Copro Gallery in October of 2011. Also at Copro that night, in gallery 3, I will be curating the return of The Talking Board Show! Should be a fun year.

Tell us a little bit about your piece for Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show’ this November?
This piece is about a creature that breaks down dead forests and allows life to reenter. Here, he is revisiting an old forest and enjoying the fruits of his labor.

What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
I had just moved back to Pittsburgh from New York to focus on making this painting thing happen. Too many days in New York were spent flat broke and drunk so something had to change. When I got to Pittsburgh, I got a job at a coffee shop and painted whenever I could. I think you got in touch with me that year and I submitted a piece for “Picks of the Harvest” the year after. It’s been a good five years.

Name 5 things you can’t live without in your studio?
Music, Audio Books, Butt Cushion, Deer Skull, House Elf.

Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
Wow, 2015 sounds so futuristic. Well, I hope to still be alive and not thrust into some sort of armageddon where my painting skills wouldn’t be very practical. I hope to learn some practical skills in the next five years to prepare for the armageddon.

What have you got coming up in 2011?
I’ve got a solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in March and I’m talking to Roq La Rue about doing a show later in the year. Then my next solo show with you in the summer of 2012. Lots to look forward to!
