Studio visit with DABS MYLA

DABS MYLA at work in their Hollywood studio

Recently made the trip out to Hollywood to visit the studio of Australian duo DABS MYLA as they begin work on ‘The Best Of Times‘. The team have been unstoppable as of late – everything from designing a new line of t-shirts to designing a new tour poster for Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder to killing it back in their homeland of Australia. Whew! This globetrotting couple is turning heads and selling every piece they create as they continue to gain momentum and new fans in the process.

A look at the early stages of some of the new works for 'The Best Of Times'

This will be the first studio visit I post as I plan to swing back a bit closer to the show and take some add’l pics. Hi-Fructose and Daily Dujour will also be doing studio visits in the month ahead, so be sure to keep an eye out for those. They are deep into the show at this point and I’m happy to share with you all a lil’ sneak peek into the goodness factory that is their studio. BIG plans are in store for this August, for now, take a peek at the paintings coming to life. More details announced soon!

‘Heroes & Villains’ now available

I’m excited to report that the ‘Heroes & Villains’ book is now available for purchase. Having watched this project develop for a number of years now and being lucky enough to have worked with the project during Beyond Eden 2009, I know how rewarding it is for them to have this book finally out for all to enjoy.

When we found out that photographers Roman Cho and Tatiana Wills had brought in our good friend Amanda Erlanson to provide the accompanying essay and interviews with many of the featured artists in the project, we knew they had gold on their hands.

Over six years in the making, the duo’s photos unveil the persona, unique vision and inner character of more than 100 of the most iconic figures in the contemporary creative world. To further illuminate the motivations and impact of this diverse group of artists at this vital moment in history, the volume includes an essay and fourteen in-depth interviews by the aforementioned Amanda Erlanson with the likes of David Choe, Audrey Kawasaki, Saber, Mark Ryden, Marion Peck, Blek le Rat, Liz McGrath, James Jean, Tiffany Bozic, Ron English, Chaz Bojórquez, Molly Crabapple, Seonna Hong and cartoonists Anders Nilsen and Kim Deitch.

‘Heroes & Villains’ includes portraits of Thinkspace regulars Andy Kehoe, Ana Bagayan, Audrey Kawasaki, Esao Andrews and Imminent Disaster, as well as over half a dozen other artists who got their start with us. To see them presented in such a beautiful light is just magical.

Having had a couple days now to enjoy the book, I must say that Kirk from ZERO+ Publishing has done a beautiful job with the project and can’t recommend enough for you all to pick this up as soon as you can. Look for an LA based signing in the very near future.

Big congrats to Tatiana, Roman and Amanda on their project finally being available for all to enjoy for years to come.

You can purchase it now on the publisher’s website: ZERO+ Publishing
