Anthony Pontius‘ debut Los Angeles solo show at our new gallery location in Culver City is fast approaching. I was recently talking with Anthony about this new body of work and wanted to share with you all a little bit more of the backstory fueling this new series. Below is a lil’ excerpt from his mail to me:
“the elusive caped cobra is not one painting but the essence of the entire show… the caped cobra is like a deity that represents the power hidden in the beauty of nature… yes ,she can be deadly but never will she abuse her power… we traded that force in exchange for a separate history of humankind… so it is now the merry band of riders who are dedicated to uphold her message thus preserving the lost harmony…”
Much will be left up to the interpretation of the viewer, but we’ll provide some add’l background info as the show grows closer. Pontius’ work is so multi-layered and textured, that in person they take on a new life all their own. We can’t wait for all to see his work in person this coming April.
Juxtapoz are big fans of Pontius’ work and recently posted a brief interview with him.
