‘5 Years / 5 Questions’ with Fernando Chamarelli – Thinkspace 5 Year Anniversary Show (Sat, Nov. 6th)

Fernando Chamarelli's new piece for Thinkspace's 5 Year Anniversary Show

This November Thinkspace will celebrate our 5 Year Anniversary. To help celebrate we’ve put together a group show we can’t wait for everyone to see this coming November.

’5 Years / 5 Questions’ with Fernando Chamarelli

Tell us a little bit about your piece is Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show ‘this November?
For this show I wanted to do something special, with a new color combination. This painting is a little different from other recent paintings of mine, but I liked the result.

What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
I was at university, in the midst of my graphic design class. I didn’t think I would start painting two years later and that the art would be so important in my life.

Name five things you can not live without in your studio?
Music, brushes, music, acrylic paint and music

Where do you hope to be five years from now?
Perhaps in another city, but I do not know, I usually do not have many plans for the future. I just paint and things happen. My art guide my life.

What have you got coming up in 2011?
Some exhibitions here in Brazil and the USA, including my debut LA solo show with Thinkspace in August.

‘5 Years / 5 Questions’ interview with Linnea Strid – Thinkspace 5 Year Anniversary Show (Sat, Nov. 6th)

Linnea Strid 'Zero (When I'm Alone I Cease To Exist)' - Oil on wood panel

This November Thinkspace will celebrate our 5 Year Anniversary. To help celebrate we’ve put together a group show we honestly can’t wait for everyone to see this coming November. We also wanted to help profile all the artists we chose to take part in the show, so we’re launching a series of ‘5 Years / 5 Questions’ mini-interviews with all the featured artists.

‘5 Years / 5 Questions’ with Linnea Strid

Tell us a little bit about your piece for Thinkspace’s ‘5 Year Anniversary Show’ this November?
My piece is called “Zero (When I’m Alone I Cease To Exist)”. It’s a self portrait, and for me, the painting deals with the issues of self-confidence and the difference of simply being alone or feeling lonely, even though you’re surrounded by people. I don’t really like to tell everyone how they should interpret my work though. I like to leave some stuff to the viewer’s imagination.

What were you doing back in 2005 when Thinkspace started?
Hmm, I believe I was having a blast studying art in a small Swedish town called Gävle. Aah, those were the days!

Name 5 things you can’t live without in your studio?
Paint, small brushes, music, my computer and candy.

Where do you hope to be 5 years from now?
I have no clue where I will be since I hardly ever make plans for more than like a year at a time. But I hope I’ll be in a happy place somewhere, doing my thing, just like today… I’m pretty easy to please, haha!

What have you got coming up in 2011?
Lots of work! More group shows, including a 2-person show at the end of the year at Thinkspace. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a pretty important one in Stockholm as well… however I don’t want to jinx it, so that’s all I’m going to say. We’ll see what happens but it will be an exciting year for sure!

ROA's massive mural at this year's Nuart Festival in Norway

Just in case that wasn’t enough, we’re not stopping there. We’re also happy to announce that we will be presenting Belgian-born artist ROA‘s debut west coast solo show the following weekend on Sat, Nov. 13th. This will be a special pop-up event presented by Thinkspace and taking place at New Puppy Gallery just outside of downtown Los Angeles. ROA has been extremely busy of late and traveling all over Europe. So far this summer he’s put up amazing pieces at Nuart, Infart, Critica Urbana and just finished up a few pieces in Ancona, Italy as part of Popup! 2010. On top of that he did a special piece in the UK that ended up on the cover of the recent issue of VNA. He’s currently preparing for a major trip to Russia that’s just around the corner. After all that, he’ll jet across the pond and will arrive into Los Angeles in late October… get ready!

More details will be announced soon…
