Hi-Fructose visit the studio of Allison Sommers

“Inspired by historical wars including WWI & the American Civil war, Brooklyn based artist Allison Sommers will be presenting her newest body of work, ‘Potter’s Field’ at L.A’s Thinkspace Gallery on January 7th. Featuring her signature style of miniature scale paintings composed of gouache on paper, the clusters of creatures, either employed as soldiers, beasts or nurses amongst others are engaged in action in darkened, war torn landscape. Illuminating the scale and inventiveness of Sommers who will also be showing one of the largest pieces she’s created to date, several of the smallest works are housed with antique matchboxes.” – Hi-Fructose

Allison Sommers releases “FLOTSAM: Sketchbooks Vol. 1”

"FLOTSAM: Sketchbooks Vol. 1" from Allison Sommers

Allison Sommers has self-published a great lil’ book of sketchbook drawings compiled from over the past year. ‘FLOTSAM’ is hardbound with dust jacket, 40 pages full color, and crammed with sketches, doodles, and brain-wispies from Allison that no one has ever seen. Culled from her Moleskine sketchbooks of 2010 and 2011, if you look hard, you can see the original idea-buds of paintings that she’s created over the past year.

‘Dig For Fire’ – a tribute to the PIXIES – curated by Kevin Titzer

We’ve been working with Kevin Titzer now for close to five years and during this time he’s been cooking up the idea for a show that would honor his favorite band the PIXIES. While working together on his recent solo show, the notion came up that we would help him find a good home for this show… enter our friends Patrick and Tanya at the C.A.V.E. Gallery in Venice, CA on the hip Abbot Kinney Blvd. Together we’ll be presenting Kevin’s dream show. ‘Dig For Fire’ will feature 34 artists interpretations of songs from the PIXIES amazing catalog. This special exhibition is being presented with full support from the band and their management.
