Wow. What a turnout this past Saturday. So many faces
we’ve not seen in years… so many members of our artist family on hand… so
many new faces. Friends flying in from all over. Humbling and uplifting in so
many ways. So many cries of “15 more years”… we will keep it going as long as
you all keep coming out to show love!!! What a night.
Thank you all for coming out to support. Thank you to all who
shared their memories across social media. Our hearts are full and we are
fueled for the new year ahead. We are indeed just
getting started. Get ready for another epic year ahead.
15 Years of Thinkspace will remain on view through
January 25 and showcases new work from 70 of our family members from around the
globe all created on custom 16.5 x 16.5 inch (42×42 cm) wood panels (image area
of 15×15 inches / 38×38 cm) courtesy of Trekell.
We’re turning 15 and a few of our friends have shared some incredible sentiments that are making us blush.
It’s impressive for ANY business to last 15 years, but the art world is even more impressive. The trends, the market, the ebbs and flows of how much social media has changed the way we view and buy art, are all things that have to be taken into account. Think about the last 15 years: stock market crash, Instagram’s emergence as the predominant communication tool, Obama, Trump… it’s the shit even Hollywood (or Orwell) could come up with. And that is what makes Thinkspace Projects, one of the most enduring galleries of outsider and emerging contemporary art, such a fantastic story. From gallery shows in Culver City to curating and supporting museum shows around the world for a new generation of artists, their influence is remarkable. – JUXTAPOZ
“Thinkspace can boast an international household name in contemporary art and new contemporary art. This is due to both its longevity and unique eye to find talent and beauty. As, indeed, for fifteen years in a row, the Culver City based art gallery has offered opportunities to a lot of artists we love, as well as created wonderful partnerships around the world with other actors of the art industry and community. Thinkspace has even widened the sense of these two words, building something closer to a family for artists and art lovers.” – Beautiful Bizarre
A lot have galleries have come and go in the last 15 years in our niche of the art world, but one constant has been the Thinkspace family. Tirelessly promoting their artists with shows at their Culver City location, with collaborative exhibitions with different galleries nationally and internationally, with participation in art fairs around the world, by plugging their artists into mural projects and street art festivals, and perhaps most importantly by garnering institutional support, the gallery has become one the most prominent leaders in the movement.” – Arrested Motion

Vertical Gallery presents ‘LAX / ORD II’, curated by Thinkspace. The exhibition will feature 100 artists, and will take place September 7 – 28, 2019. The opening reception is Saturday, September 7th, 6-9pm.
After the phenomenal success of LAX / ORD in September 2016, Vertical and Thinkspace immediately discussed collaborating again. “LAX / ORD II” will have more artists than the first edition, in what will be the largest collection of artists from the New Contemporary Movement under one roof to date in the Windy City.
All the artists have been asked to work within the same space confines of 12×12 inches (30×30 cm) and left to their own devices from there. This collection helps to showcase just how vast and varied the Movement is, from portrait based works to the more fantastical, from landscapes to design based abstract works… ‘LAX / ORD II’ promises to bring your Instagram feed to life and expose you to your new favorite artist.
The exhibition will also include more of a taste of the local Chicago art scene. JC Rivera will have a site-specific mural on the back wall of the gallery to help accent the group show that will be installed on the gallery’s adjacent side walls. On top of that, there will be a new print edition from Kayla Mahaffey that will be available exclusively for sale to those attending the opening reception. Get ready for Thinkspace’s big return!
