An update from Jennifer Nehrbass

A look inside the New Mexico studio of Jennifer Nehrbass

Jennifer Nehrbass recently shot us over a couple of images she took of work coming to life inside her studio out in New Mexico. Nehrbass is currently painting for a big year ahead including a solo show in Austria this summer, her 2-person show at Thinkspace alongside Aaron Nagel and a group show over in Australia. Although it’s not clear which of these shows the below painting will be featured in, we can say with utmost confidence that her new series of work will be well worth the wait.

Studio visit with Liz Brizzi

A native of France, born of Italian parents, Liz Brizzi grew up in Los Angeles. She is inspired by urban themes and loves to portray the beauty she captures in the raw and industrial aspects of city life. Her individual mixed media technique begins with the manipulation of her original photography collaged onto an acrylic painted canvas, finally blended within layers and layers of colorful acrylic washes.

Her recent work utilizes various architectural details found in her photos to create more complex graphics, structures and imaginary landscapes, while using shapes reminiscent of street art found in the very same cities she photographs. She’s also widened the scope of the areas she explores in her imagery to the less explored industrial outskirts of Los Angeles. “I try to capture and share the beauty I see in these desolated and mysterious areas that are unknown to even some of the born and raised Angelenos…”.

“Her scenes seem like that moment when the sun starts to peak after a summer downpour.” – MyLoveForYou.com

I recently visited the Los Angeles studio of this French born artist as she prepares for ‘Torn and Tattered’ opening this coming March at Thinkspace. The new works are Brizzi’s most vibrant and visually arresting yet, her keen eye capturing the forlorn areas of our city which she in turn transforms into scenes that whisk viewers away to an all together different place, one filled with wonder and discovery. Below is a lil’ photographic recap of the studio visit and a glimpse at one of the finished gems she’ll be showing this March.

Studio visit with Craig “Skibs” Barker

Craig “Skibs” Barker grew up in Southern California during the early ‘80s in the midst of both the punk rock and surfing culture explosions. With a healthy dose of punk flyers, album covers, and surfing magazines buzzing through his head, Barker began making flyers and t-shirts for his friends and his own punk bands. Fast-forward to today; Barker’s most recent paintings infuse his long-standing love for painting and rendering the human female figure with his punk-fueled graphic design. Mixing different approaches, techniques, and mediums, he creates a sense of memory, personal history, and appreciation for the female form. Combining elements of pop culture, literary censorship, and a positive mental attitude, he creates layered scenes of voyeuristic mischief. Barker’s work explores the junctions between past and present, memory and imagination, fantasy and reality, while creating a dialog between image and viewer.

I recently visited the studio of this Costa Mesa based artist as he prepares for ‘Torn and Tattered’ opening this coming March at Thinkspace. We’re excited by the direction his work is taking and below is a lil’ photographic recap of the studio visit and a glimpse at one of the finished gems he’ll be showing this March.
