David Choe movie set to have LA premiere June 21st…

Harry Kim’s highly anticipated documentary on street art’s favorite badass, David Choe, finally debuts Saturday, June 21st as part of the Los Angeles Film Fest at Majestic Crest Theatre.

Dirty Hands: The Art & Crimes of David Choe chronicles the life of this renegade artist’s triumphs, struggles, and self-described “bullshit life.” Los Angeles artist David Choe’s kaleidoscopic work can be playful, confrontational and sexually frank. His personal life is no less complicated, as revealed by close friend Harry Kim, who documented Choe’s life and crimes from 2000 to 2007. From the manic highs of commercial success and dinosaur hunting in the Congo to the self-destructive lows of Japanese jail sentences and bouts of self-doubt and depression, what begins as a gleeful portrait of a bad-boy artist slowly becomes a poignant celebration of one man’s journey, both artistically and spiritually, toward his own uncertain salvation.

Pictured above is one of our gems from Choe that we got from his last show at Gallery AD up in San Jose – “Party Hats and Double Dongs”. How can’t you love it with a name like that?!?!

Vimby post video of Fifty24LA/UP opening…

Vimby just posted a nice video of the opening festivities from this past weekend down off skid row of the new Upper Playground store, Fifty24LA Gallery and Mr. Cartoon and Estevan Oriol’s new shops…

Check it out here:

Get on down to 6th Street and check out the new show and the stunning front window installation from European street artist Armsrock. As I’ve been mentioning a good bit, get ready for his big show this December at thinkspace with NY street artist Elbow-Toe. Their show about to open next week at Ad Hoc Art in Brookyln, NY is almost sold out already. We’ve a few nice ones from Armsrock and Elbow-Toe in our ‘Available Artwork’ section… check ’em out. More to come soon from both.

Don’t miss Tiffany Bozic’s new show…

Don’t miss SF based artist Tiffany Bozic‘s latest solo show “Bedtime Stories” at Kinsey/DesForges over in Culver City. The gem above, “Namibia”, is the latest piece to join the Hosner Art Collection. There were only a couple of paintings left last I saw. She just gets tighter and tighter with each show. The show is up through June 28th, so be sure to swing on over to Culver City.

In this latest series, Bozic applies her trademark stains of acrylic washes to the natural grain of maple panel to render resonant stories based on observations in her travels and research while an artist in residence at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, where she helped establish their new Artist in Residence Program and exhibited in 2007.

Some really great shows are on view over in Culver City right now including Murakami at Blum&Poe, Joshua Krause at Cerasoli Gallery, and many more plus Scion has a new one opening this Saturday too… so more than enough reasons to head out to CC (assuming you didn’t swim up stream with the masses last weekend when it was ‘hip’ to be there).
