Lauren YS’s Mural for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

Lauren YS is a Bay Area artist whose work is influenced by multiple stages of focus, both geographically and in practice. With dynamic bouts in academics, literature, and writing, teaching, illustration, and animation leading up to her arrival in the urban art sphere, these phases of her own career informed her robust style of murals and fine art. Influenced by dreams, mythology, death, comics, love, sex, psychedelia, animation, nostalgia, and her Asian-American heritage, Lauren’s work is often geared towards pushing a narrative undertone, addressing the absurdities of reality in the confines of a page or a wall, weaving in an always fantastical aesthetic.

Jaune’s Mural Progress for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

Jaune is one part satirist and another part artists, utilizing tiny uniformed garbage men and construction workers to advocate for more social awareness. The people who keep our streets clean and lights on, the people in the background that are often invisible, but we rely on to keep a polished society running. Jaune paints and constructs little worlds of chaos and disruption for the guys in yellow reflective vests to run amok. He creates beauty out of the mundane and wields creativity as a powerful tool for making the best out of the worst.

Amy Sol’s Mural Progress for Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape

We are excited to have Amy Sol as a part of Vitality & Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape creating a mural on the same space her peers Audrey Kawasaki and Sarah Joncas executed their murals in our past collaboration with the Long Beach Museum of Art.

Amy Sol spent her childhood years in Korea then moved to the United States where she currently lives and works. Though the style of her work is greatly influenced by a combination of manga, folk-art, vintage illustration and modern design, she remains a self-taught artist. The artist works intuitively from the beginning to end of each piece, with the intent that each painting’s theme or message can be interpreted subjectively. Yet, the unique color palette of subtly muted tones in the delicate works tends to always evoke peaceful reflection and a sense of companionship.

BORDALO II POW! WOW! LONG BEACH + VITALITY & VERVE III at Long Beach Museum of Art

BORDALO II sculpts a massive seal out of found plastic for Vitality & Verve III at Long Beach Museum of Art in conjunction with POW! WOW! Long Beach.

Bordalo II was born in Lisbon and believes he belongs to a generation of extreme consumerism, materialism, and greed. As society continues to overproduce goods and carelessly throw away objects, the trash becomes Bordalo II’s medium and inspiration. He takes the waste that’s left behind and manipulates it, assembling and developing his works with the end-of-life material reflect an idea and message of sustainability, ecological, and social awareness.

Juan Travieso Mural for Vitality & Verve III : Transforming the Urban Landscape

The murals and installations for Vitality and Verve III: Transforming the Urban Landscape at the Long Beach Museum of art have been underway for a week now and the artists’ various visions continue to come to fruition.

Below are a few shots of Juan Travieso’s bold mural as a work in progress at the  Long Beach Museum of Art.

Juan Travieso (born Havana, Cuba 1987), is an artist based in Miami and New York.  His work explores notions of impermanence and decay through a combined language of pop, realism, and abstraction. Figures, be them humans or animals, are broken up into spaces and forms much like 3d models, speaking to both their temporality and transition into the digital age. What once was abstractions interacting with disappearing animals, are now figures of disappearing and transforming ideologies and culture.  Travieso is a dynamic maker, he approaches painting with great appetite and produces a feast for the eyes and mind.

Join us Friday, June 29th for the opening night gala, After Dark.
