“Vitality & Verve: In The Third Dimension” at the Long Beach Museum of Art presented in collaboration with POW! WOW! Long Beach and Thinkspace Gallery opened to the public July 16th. A selection of the best artists who have carved out a place for themselves within the mural and new contemporary art movement; were invited to transform the 8,000 sq ft space within the walls of the Long Beach Museum of Art. Creating site-specific installations, murals, and sculptural vignettes; the various artists used a plethora of materials to push their own artistic boundaries. Ariel DeAndrea’s paper cranes fly through the front part of the museum, while Marc Dean Veca’s blacklight bean bag cave coaxes you sit awhile and immerse yourself into the installation.
The artists’ materials are as varied as their own artistic voices; using materials ranging from fiber, wood, plastics, acrylics, resins, cardboard, textiles, paints, ceramics, paper, and reclaimed materials pushed their work into the third dimension.
Below is a visual tour of the downstairs portion of the Long Beach Museum of Art, photos courtesy of Birdman Photography. This is only half of the exhibition which must be seen in person. The presentation of Vitality & Verve: In The Third Dimension is made possible by the generous support of The Port of Long Beach, JetBlue, Pasadena Art Alliance, the Bauer Foundation, and Thinkspace Gallery.
